Today marks a very special day for me! You see, today is my 49th Birthday and I treat birthdays a little different than most. A lot of people don’t like birthdays. I Love Them. Today I am the happiest man alive and thankful that I have survived another year living with the silent killer! I have now lived with Type I Diabetes for 43 years of my life. Blessed with this horrible disease at the early age of 6, I have never complained or whined. Why, what’s the use? Complaining or whining will get you nowhere in life. However, i am so thankful that the disease that kills someone every 6 seconds has not snuffed me out!
Since the age of 6 this disease has presented me with some serious life events and challenges. Losing my left eye at the age of 21 for 3 years was not fun. This was healed by the most amazing man in the world. Kuljinder Grewal you are the man! I was also blessed with the most amazing parents and wife and children that a man could ask for. My parents took the time out of their lives to educate and learn how to care for this crazy disease while raising 3 other children and working full time jobs. Not to mention that growing up in rural America meant that the drive to the doctor or education center was 40 miles each way through rain, snow, sleet and ice on a two lane road was never a problem for them.
My darling amazing wife of 26 ++ years is a Rock Star. She has seen the ups the downs of living with the silent killer and has picked me up in a coma and saved my life on numerous occasions and I can't thank and love her enough. I LOVE YOU more than you will ever now!
My road/life has never been an easy road. However, I am convinced that the key to living with the silent killer is education. I have lost many close and amazing friends to the silent killer and pray daily it doesn’t get me!
Diet, exercise, education is the key to longevity with this crazy disease. It is my goal before I expire to do everything in my power to help and assist finding a cure. In addition, my goal is to educate and assist others who may not be so lucky to have amazing parents and an amazing wife.
Furthermore, I want to thank all the people in my life that have assisted me and supported me in my mission to live. I love you all from the bottom of my heart!
So, with 365 days to go before my half century mark, I challenge each and every one of you to get on your bike and ride for an amazing cause to Stop Diabetes the silent killer and remember TEAM means together, everyone, achieves more! Go Chargers!
