Meet my Pita Pack! This is what keeps me alive! Furthermore, this is why I ride to Stop Diabetes! I hope before I expire I can throw it away! Please God! Being a Type I Guy for 43 years and counting, the key to Long Gevity is controlled blood glucose levels, eating correctly and exercise. This of course is always easier said than done! However, living with an insulin pump is the next closest thing to being and living normal. With an insulin pump it allows me to be in better control and does not require eating at set times throughout the day. It is like walking around with an IV full of insulin. I have now used a pump for over 25 years. The current technology is far superior compared to the dinosaur model that I first hit the market in the mid 1980’s. The first version had a metal needle that was inserted subcutaneously under the skin, once inserted you would put a normal band aide over the needle. Being metal it was uncomfortable and if you made the wrong move you would feel the needle. Sometimes of course it was quite painful. Today’s version you insert a 1” needle and remove and it leaves a Teflon canula subcutaneously under the skin which of course can be painful at insertion however it is a far cry from the old school technology. This can be left under your skin for up to 72 hours and must be changed. I choose to insert in the abdomen area and rear flank only. The pump must be programmed and told what to do. Still must check blood glucose levels 8-12 times per day. This works great for me, but it’s not for everyone. It is my goal to throw this all away one day! Hopefully sooner than later and this is why I have committed the remainder of my life to do everything in my power to Stop Diabetes!
